Students will focus on the essential question 'How have Australians changed over time?'. History and Civics and Citizenship Education work closely together to ensure students are provided with are rich authentic learning experiences for students to engage with ( Tudball, 2010) . By the end of year four, students should be able to “explain how and why life changed in the past and describe the experiences and perspectives of an individual or group over time and recognise the significance of events in bringing about change” ( ACARA, 2017) . Grade 4P are passionate about the footprint they leave on earth therefore in our HASS lessons we will be focusing on Sustainability. Luckily through Civics and Citizen Education, a feature of HASS, sustainability focuses on practices of engaging, appreciating and linking (Gilbert & Hoepper, 2014). It challenges your children to analyze the relationship between their own lifestyles and the idea of sustainability and consider the future by understanding the patterns that allow us to meet the needs of the present, without compromising the future generations (ACARA, 2017). In the Australian Curriculum sustainability is a priority which encourages the teaching of protecting our environment that creates an ecologically and socially just world (ACARA, 2017). Week 2: Civics and Citizenship – Learning about Identity and Cultural Diversity

Nowadays, students are exposed to negative outlooks on different cultural minorities portrayed by the community and media (Kennedy, 2011). It vital for students to appreciate their own identity and embrace those around them ( McLaine & Dowden, 2011 ).
